I Failed.  Now What?

The SAFE Mortgage Loan Originator Test - National Component

Basic Requirements

National Component Test  is Required for ALL Originators

  • 100 Questions - 90 are graded

  • 75% correct to pass

  • Fail - wait 30 days to retake (can retake 3 times - then wait 6 months)

  • EVERY originator must take the national test, even if you previously passed a state exam

Content

We have taken the test, and it is very similar to the state examinations formerly administered in UT, NC, IL, WI, NJ.  It is less difficult than the IN test.

Each test contains different questions drawn from a bank of hundreds of questions.  There may be enough questions with subjective answers that could cause a student to fail the test, even if he or she knows 90% of the material.

Timing

If your state requires a test - DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE TO TAKE THE TEST.  If you fail, you will have to wait 30 days and your license may expire.  Do not wait until your license is about to expire.

Disclaimer - WARNING

The NMLS is VERY strict about test preparation providers giving conclusive indications of test content.  We are NOT ABLE to provide examples of actual test questions or specific guidance as to test content.  NO legitimate provider can - be wary of any provider who say they will.

We are successful because we are able to minimize the amount of content needed for memorization using our QuickNotes process.  Instead of memorizing quiz questions and answers, you actually learn the material.
